Danger of Religious-like Faith in Any Politician

During an interview with MSNBC host Chris Matthews, Newsweek editor Evan Thomas said of President Obama

I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above — above the world, he’s sort of god.

My wife Cyndi first saw this story on TV.  She thought Evan Thomas had said the President was “sort of a god,” little “g” and didn’t give it much more thought. Until today.

In a (traditional newspaper) column titled, “Newsrooms shouldn’t be houses of worship,” Cal Thomas mentioned this same portion of the Matthews-Thomas interview. In Cal’s printed text, he indicated that the Newsweek editor had referred to the President as “sort of God,” capital “G.”

Why did the Newsweek editor – who gets paid for working with ideas -  use a word with such powerful religious imagery when referring to the President?

Does it matter? You decide!

Poll Question: Do you think members of the mainstream media are putting religious-like faith in the President?

Yes.   No.   No opinion.
