Streaming video explodes, Christian Web TV gains momentum

As the number of homes with streaming video devices continues to rise, Christian Web TV has a huge opportunity to gain momentum as well.

Online Video

A pathway is clearing for evangelical streaming video networks to distribute high quality, gospel-focused video into the mix of mainstream content feeding what appears to be an insatiable appetite for streaming video – at home and on the go.

Overall, more than half of U.S. homes (55%) now stream TV programming and movies, according to a new survey from consulting firm Frank N. Magid Associates, up from 49% in 2011.

That is exciting news for churches, ministries and creators producing current content that speaks to a generation hungry for spiritual truth.

Now is the time to make inroads.

The U.S. streaming market is expected to grow from about $3.7 billion in 2012 to $6.7 billion in 2016, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers.

As the adoption of faster home broadband services and connected TVs continues to stimulate the dynamic home video marketplace, Christian streaming providers will be able to get on board this speeding “bullet train” – to make sure services providing the gospel have a seat.

Web TV is perfect for the gospel.

People around the world are interested in Internet television because you can click a message, watch it, pause it, control the content that speaks best to your situation, discuss it with family, friends and mentors, (and) choose more of the content you want.

Web TV is just a better paradigm for the gospel.

Homes with Net-connected TVs rose to 35% of all U.S. households in 2012, up from 30% in 2011, the Magid survey found. That trend is accelerating and should hit 42% of all U.S. homes by the end of 2013, Magid projects.

Look for more collaborations and partnerships between creators and distributors, as they increasingly see the value of working together to bring audience-oriented changes to Christian media.

While mainstream studios, streaming services and traditional pay TV providers battle each other over distribution channels and content rights, Christian organizations will recognize the value of combining forces and resources. High quality content fed into massive distribution networks grows audience. As the audience grows, more content will flow into the system. More content more audience. More audience more decisions for Christ.

In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me. John 18:37

What will propel the growth of Christian streaming video networks will be seeing people make decisions for Christ, grow in their faith, and help others come to Jesus.

Content is King, and the content of the King’s message is still Good News.
