The Project of a Lifetime

This is the big dream you’ve been thinking about and praying over for a long time. It’s so close you can see it beginning to materialize.

You are excited by the opportunity yet overwhelmed by its immensity. There is a lot riding on you making the right decisions.

Getting these four things right won’t guarantee success but they will put you and the project on a trajectory with “the peace of God, which passes all understanding.”

FIRST, be as certain as you can that you and the project are in God’s will.

Are your motives pure? Whose interests are you advancing? Regardless of how you feel about the project, it has to fit with God’s purposes for your life. God works in patterns. He’s been preparing you for this. You will be able to see his handprints all over it.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)

SECOND, count the cost. Do your due diligence. Consider all the possibilities. It’s time to sweat the details.

For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? (Luke 14:28)

THIRD, prepare for opposition. I heard Bob Russell say, “A good leader has to refuse to allow the opposition to kill a vision.” Not everyone will believe your dream is possible. Some will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.

But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)

FOURTH, and most important, ask God for His presence to make you into a person, a team, a church that will reveal His glory.

In Exodus 33, Moses tells God that if His Presence doesn’t go with the Israelites, no one will know that God is pleased with them, or supporting the people in pursuit of their big dream and big promise.

Then Moses said to God, ‘Now show me your glory.’

Without God’s presence, neither Moses as leader, or the people would be distinguishable from any other people or any other huge undertaking.

Radical transformation

I believe individuals, ministries and even entire industry sectors are about to undergo radical transformation in their approaches to using technology to reach the next generation for Christ.

God’s presence will distinguish those engaged in these kingdom building efforts from anything the world is doing. It will distinguish you from the opposers and those twittering about in fear and doubt.

Your mission, should you accept it, is to be faithful with the call to undertake the big dreams God gives you. The how and when or even the if you ever get to the Promised Land is in His hands. You can count on me to be cheering you on in prayer.
