Six Essentials of Web Evangelism

How does a Web ministry that’s focused on discipleship (growing a viewer in their walk with God) attract and convert the lost?

The purpose of Christian Web ministry parallels the Church it exists to support… to win the lost and help them mature spiritually.

Here are six essential Web evangelism tasks.

1. Sow the seed of the gospel into every crack and crevice of a community where there is a lack of gospel presence.

Web ministry is not subject to geographical, political or religious barriers.

Every person on earth is within reach.

2. Make the first contact with people who are totally ignorant of the Christian message and that would never step foot into a church.

3. Repeat the message on a 24/7 basis until the viewer is thoroughly acquainted with the claims of Christ. Give her the opportunity to hear the gospel from a number of different preachers, teachers, leaders, and artists.

4. Call for a decision by the viewer through stories, produced text or visual messages, testimonies, and live programming.

5. Teach the new believer, firmly rooting her in sound biblical teaching. Offer online and interactive devotionals and mentoring. By strengthening the immature Christian before she steps into a church, the witnessing effectiveness of the Church is increased.

6. Invite the new believer into fellowship by intentional means and connection. The interactive nature of digital technology allows a Web ministry and local church partners to create one-to-one personal outreach mashups that can make the viewer feel at home the first time she worships in community.

Open doors

Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. John 4:14

God doesn’t create a medium like the internet and then hand it to His followers to evangelize the world. Rather, He waits patiently while finite man stumbles toward discovery of the medium and develops it.

ARPANET came in 1969. TCP/IP in 1982. The Web in 1989. Commercialization in 1995.

The Church wasn’t engaged in the early stages of development.

Now, however, the fact that the internet is available for evangelism and ministry is sobering since Christian responsibility and accountability are proportionate to opportunity and capability.

The doors are open for extending Christ’s invitation to forgiveness and eternal life beyond anything we have ever seen.
